Coles and Aldi continue to milk profits

NSW Farmers’ Association has condemned Coles and Aldi for persisting with sales of $1 a litre milk.

Despite the known impact on returns for dairy farmers, current drought conditions and Woolworths announcing they would end $1 a litre milk, Coles and Aldi have today pledged to continue to stock cheap fresh milk.

“We are shocked at the stubborn reactions from Coles and Aldi to refuse to remove $1 milk from the shelves,” said NSW Farmers Dairy Committee chair Erika Chesworth.

“Dairy farmers just want a fair return for their product and are not after charity”

“We are angry that for 8 years $1 milk has stripped the dairy industry of fair prices and long term sustainability.”

“Coles and Aldi have refused to engage or listen to dairy farmers concern. They instead just engage in publicity stunts and continue to destroy the viability of our businesses.”

“The short term ventures of Coles are not real solutions.  Dairy farmers must be paid a fair price that recognises the value of our fresh milk. It must not be used as a loss leader any longer.”
